Talking therapy, photography, and empowering experiences inspired by nature.

Hello, I’m Charlotte. I am a qualified therapist and photographer. I help people to be seen and heard through one-to-one therapy sessions and other therapeutic experiences such as photography and workshops.Charlotte Broster: near Canterbury, Kent

I know from my own experience that when we are seen and heard by someone who has empathy with us, we are able to truly see our authentic selves. We are also able to develop and strengthen our voice. We find answers to big questions such as, who am I? What do I want? What do I need?

Living on the Kent coast, the sea has inspired how I work with people. It provides a powerful metaphor for effective therapy. The sea, or water in general, flows rather than forces. Adapts and changes. Cleanses and renews. Invites courage. Connects us to something larger than ourselves. It reflects and goes deep, just as I strive to do with all my clients. Together, we explore what lies beneath the surface and make long-term changes to your wellbeing. I am here to support you throughout life’s changing tides.

I also believe that therapy is not necessarily about sitting in a room with a counsellor. I am inspired by the restorative power of nature, especially the sea, and my counselling can take place in the great outdoors if that is where you are most comfortable. I am an advocate for ‘blue mind’, a state of calm and peace triggered by being in, on, or near water.

Therapy is also not just about finding the words to say how we feel. Expressing ourselves can be done in other ways too. Creativity is a powerful tool for recovering from difficult life experiences. My clients have the option of incorporating journaling and therapeutic art into their sessions. This supports my whole-person therapeutic approach, also known as ‘holistic’ – working with every part of you. Because we are all different and have unique needs, I tailor your treatment to suit your personality, circumstances, and goals.

My motivational speaking consists of engaging and relatable talks based on my non-fiction book ‘Life Lessons from Cold Water’, looking at profound values and principles which reach far beyond getting our feet wet. I reflect on the themes of change, discomfort, vulnerability, identity, connection, purpose, and adventure. By weaving together personal experience, insightful encounters, and counselling theory, I am able to inspire my audience about what it means to live well.

What else? A wild swimmer and ice bath fanatic, I am often banging the drum about the virtues of cold water immersion to absolutely anybody who will listen.

I hope you enjoy browsing my website and getting a feel for the work I do. The Outdoor Studio centres around helping people understand themselves and feel empowered to build the life they want. If the images I create and the subjects I write about resonate with you, please get in touch.
