Empowering photography experiences by the sea.

“This is one of the most empowering experiences I have ever had. It has strengthened my voice and my message. Thank you, Charlotte, for enabling me to become even more like me and shine like a badass whilst doing it.”Katie Manning: artist

Being photographed can be an uncomfortable experience and, for some of us, we can spend our life avoiding cameras, but women deserve to be photographed because it’s a fundamental human need to feel seen. The right photographer has the ability to reflect something back that most women slowly forget in the rhythm of daily life. Their spirit. Inner playfulness. Independence. Femininity. Grit. Yes, it can be uncomfortable, but it is only through discomfort that we grow. We get stronger. Become bolder.

These ‘Empowerment’ photo sessions aren’t just photo sessions. They are experiences. Therapeutic moments to feel, reflect, and be. The process of acquiring the photographs is as important as the photographs themselves.

These portraits do not come easy for each woman and because of that, there is a proud story behind each one.

There is no better location to photograph women than on the beach. There is a feminine force around water, particularly the sea, and it seems to complete the women I take there. I enjoy seeing them let out a big sigh of relief, kick their shoes off, allow sand to stick to their skin, their hair to tangle in the wind, their best dress to get damp. Back home, their lives are full of rules and expectations but at the beach, these boundaries dissolve. Fail to exist. The have permission to be wild and untamed. The experience is therapeutic. A break from the norm. At the end of the session, the women are usually windblown and euphoric. They feel different. More alive. More connected to their bodies and minds. They have reclaimed their spirit.
